Extending the Mixed-Use Urban Fabric to a Former Industrial Edge
Praxisma led the master planning and urban design for a major mixed-use redevelopment on the eastern edge of a large North American city’s downtown waterfront. The plan was developed through an inclusive public engagement process and resulted in a new LEED-ND certified district that reflects the character of adjacent historic neighborhoods while introducing contemporary forms of living, working, and recreation. Central to the plan is a major urban park that integrates flood protection infrastructure, environmental restoration, and civic space, serving both as a recreational anchor and a resilient greenway along the riverfront. The project’s early success was accelerated by its selection as the site for a major international sporting event, catalyzing significant public and private investment and delivering a vibrant new urban precinct.
